MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—Somali army forces along with Jubaland regional troops launched joint offensive against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants.
The operation was targeted camps runs by Al Shabaab in Jubba and Gedo regions.
Mohamed Abdi Kalil, state security minister of Jubaland said the coalition forces carried out an operation against militants’ hideouts in Elwak, Bardhere and Garbaharey towns.
Kalil says the forces destroyed several Al-Shabaab camps during the operations.
He added the operation would continue until the group’s fighters are eradicated.
The group was ousted from major areas in south and central Somalia, but still has a presence in large areas of southern Somalia and often stages attacks across Somalia.
Somalia has remained in the grip of on-again, off-again violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.
