Somalia says Al-Shabaab official killed in US strike

MOGADISHU (Caasimada Online)—Somalia’s Intelligence says a senior Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab official has been killed in drone strike carried out by US military in west of the capital of Mogadishu.

The Agency said the latest airstrike had killed Al-Shabab’s head of tax collection.

The strike was carried out n Oct. 25 in Kunyo Barrow area, some 65km west of Somali capital Mogadishu.

US says on Friday it has carried out 28th drone strike against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in the same area, killing at least two militants.

Last week, African Union mission in Somalia says its forces had killed head of Al-Shabab finance controller and 7 others in an attack in west of Somali capital Mogadishu.

There was no immediate response from Al Shabaab over the claims.

The Al-Qaeda linked Shabaab was pushed out of the Somali capital in 2011 — and subsequently other towns and cities — by soldiers from the African Union Mission in Somalia.

Somali has been without a central authority since the overthrow of the late ruler Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991 when the country plunged into chaos and lawlessness.
