Puntland President Abdiweli Gaas is in Dubai to seal a deal that would see the management of Bossaso port taken over by the United Arab Emirates.
A source close to the President confirmed to Radio Dalsan that Gaas was in the country and the agenda in a meeting with the UAE government will be the handing over of the Bossaso port to an emarati company.
The deal comes four days after neighbouring Somaliland passed a motion that will see UAE establish a military base in the port city Berbera.
That decision by Somaliland Parliament has received condemnation by Somalia government which says it is illegal .
UAE has shown an interest in Somalia in the last four years competing for contracts with the already established Turkey which has established a military base in Mogadishu .
Bossaso is strategically placed on the Gulf of Aden and is less than 3 hours sailing from the port city to Aden, Yemen.
UAE alongside allied gulf countries is currently involved in the war in Yemen.
